Bringing interiors to life with Mark Taylor Design

Mark Taylor Design sourced furniture and rugs for this four-bedroom detached home

For more than two decades Mark Taylor Design has been creating exceptional bespoke furniture and joinery for its private, professional and commercial clients. Two years ago this prestigious British furniture design and manufacturing business established an interior design and sourcing division, led by Susanna Hall, whose vast experience of bringing interiors to life provided the perfect basis for transforming aspects of this four-bedroom detached property into a unique, family home.

Head of interior design Susanna explains: “The clients had a very clear view of how they wanted the space to work internally, however they struggled with the layout of the furniture and wanted help introducing colour and texture into their home.”

On the ground floor, the clients had knocked through two existing walls to open up the kitchen, family and informal living room. Mark Taylor Design was briefed with sourcing and making all of the furniture, both new and antique, wood flooring, carpet and antique rugs throughout the home. “We wanted to create subtle zones without breaking up this new space,” continues Susanna. “One of the ways in which we did this was with the use of area rugs, furniture and, in some cases, artwork.”

Over the years the clients had collected an eclectic mix of furniture and artwork. Mark Taylor Design was tasked with blending the new pieces and modern, open-plan design of the property seamlessly and Susanna adds: “We incorporated this mix of styles and used flashes of colour on furnishings and stunning area rugs to really bring the interiors to life.”

The beautiful, bespoke armchair in the sitting room, which the team designed and produced, is priced from £2,150. It features patterned fabric from Linwood’s Kilim collection on the front and cotton velvet Opus from Abbott & Boyd on the back and demonstrates a combination of colour and style perfectly. Feature walls painted in deep Farrow & Ball colours such as Inchyra Blue, which was used in one of the bedrooms, provide a minimalistic, neutral backdrop and incorporate subtle colour.

“We had the opportunity to use stunning colours and fabrics in this project. As a designer, it’s always a treat to have a client who is confident to use bold colours in their home,” says Susanna.
