Singapore Design Firm FBEYE International Celebrates First Three Michelin Stars

Singapore Design Firm FBEYE International Celebrates First Three Michelin Stars

(Singapore, 2 August 2016) – Singapore’s top chefs are not the only ones to be celebrating Singapore’s first Michelin star announcements.  Specialist hospitality interior design firm FBEYE International (FBEYE) is also celebrating the first three Michelin stars in Singapore for two of the firm’s recently designed restaurants.

The intimate Shoukouwa at One Fullerton road, which has space for only 14 diners, received two Michelin stars, while Jaan, an intimate 40-seater French restaurant on the 70th floor of one of Southeast Asia’s tallest hotels received one Michelin star.

“Of course, the Michelin stars are all about the food experience, but we like to think that in some subtle way the interior design does have an important part to play in the dining experience,” says Warren Foster-Brown, founder and principal of FBEYE.

“It’s interesting that in both of these two restaurants, the design is deliberately planned to not draw attention to itself, but to put the emphasis firmly on the aesthetics of the food.”

“We all know that Michelin inspectors have a bias against over-flashy design – it tends to make them assume that the restaurants aren’t serious about the food.  So in a way you might say that the down-played design helped these restaurants win their awards,” says Warren Foster-Brown, Managing Director of FBEYE International.

FBEYE International is known for its versatile and cutting-edge designs mainly for hotels and restaurants.  Some of the firm’s signature projects in Singapore include the new Westin Singapore in Marina Bay Financial Centre and its many interesting bars and restaurants, and the recent renovation of the InterContinental Singapore including the specialty Chinese restaurant “Man Fu Yuan” and European restaurant Ash & Elm.

Outside Singapore, FBEYE was also recently shortlisted in The International Hotel & Property Awards for Favola, the restaurant within the stylish new Le Meridien Dhaka Hotel.
