The copper finish on the island takes centre stage in this beautiful, bespoke kitchen by Mark Taylor Design

Prestigious British manufacturer Mark Taylor Design is renowned for its superlative bespoke furniture and joinery and for its creative use of materials, which is exemplified by this simply stunning, unique copper and blue kitchen.

The owners of this four-bedroom Surrey family home, which also features a swimming pool and gym, were looking for a fresh, modern, open-plan kitchen and living area with the wow factor, which is exactly what Mark Taylor Design’s expert team delivered.

Managing director Mark Taylor explains: “Our clients wanted a space for all the family to use, which incorporated a large island for eating and a central point for cooking and entertaining, plus a TV and seating area that linked to the outdoor space.”

Taking centre stage within the kitchen is the stunning, rectangular island, which features a beautiful Calacatta marble worktop. “Because of the huge expanse of marble, the island needed something special,” continues Mark, who cleverly incorporated an eye-catching copper-clad firebox into one end of the island. Digitally controlled, the Bio Fire Box is ignited remotely and is pre-programmed with six heat/flame settings, which can be adjusted with a remote control or i-Pad. “It creates a fabulous image as you walk into the kitchen, however it made the seating end look a little plain in comparison. So I came up with the copper-clad base for the seating area, which has created the wow factor from the other end of the kitchen, too.”

The bespoke kitchen furniture is painted in Little Greene Paint Company’s James shade and features a discrete finger pull and push to open doors and drawers.

The ovens, hob, fridge, prep sink and wine cabinet are all located close together to ensure minimal movement is required when cooking and oak, dovetailed drawers with cutlery and utensil dividers add a further, luxury finish.

“A kitchen in pale blue with light marble work surfaces can be cold,” continues Mark. “However, the copper-lit skirting, uplighters and island unit bring a real sense of luxury and warmth to the space.”
