Berkeley St Edward takes top housebuilding honour at RoSPA Awards @RoSPA @BerkeleyGroupUK

Housing developer Berkeley St Edward has won big at the RoSPA Health and Safety Awards, being named as the winner in the Housebuilding and Property Development Sector.

Berkeley St Edward, which has 10 sites across London and the South, received its award at a gala dinner at ExCeL London last Tuesday, June 18.

The RoSPA Health and Safety Awards are open to organisations of all sizes from across the wide spectrum of industries, all over the world. The sector awards are presented to organisations with outstanding performance in health and safety within a particular industry or sector. Entrants must be able to demonstrate a robust and high-quality safety management system, together with a minimum of four years’ consistently excellent or continuously improving health and safety performance.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards, said: “Judges were impressed by Berkeley St Edward’s excellent standard of entry, which showcased a very impressive safety management system, and senior management commitment to high-standards of safety and health was evident throughout the submission. We were particularly impressed with their contractor management systems and workforce involvement initiatives.”

Paul Vallone, divisional managing director at Berkeley St Edward, said: “Berkeley St Edward are delighted to be recognised at these prestigious awards for the second time in five years. We have an exceptional health and safety record on site and this time we have gone even further by introducing initiatives to make sure our staff and supply chain are safe and healthy when they leave work each day. All of this is down to the hard work and team effort of our staff and subcontractors who I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to.”

While Berkeley St Edward was named winner in the Housebuilding and Property Development Sector, Teambuild Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd was also Highly Commended.

The RoSPA Awards scheme, which receives entries from organisations around the world, recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Headline sponsor of the RoSPA Awards 2019 is NEBOSH – the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health – for the 14th consecutive year.
