Taittinger celebrates RIBA Stirling Prize 2019 winner: Goldsmith Street in Norwich

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has named Goldsmith Street as the 2019 winner of its prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize. As the official Champagne partner of RIBA, Champagne Taittinger was at this week’s awards to ensure architects Mikhail Riches and Cathy Hawley enjoyed a sparkling celebration.  The Prize was awarded in partnership with the BBC and the ceremony was hosted by presenter Naga Muchetty.

Goldsmith Street – a project of almost 100 highly energy-efficient homes built for Norwich City Council – beat five other masterpieces to pick up this award for the UK’s best new building.

A great appreciation for impressive or cleverly designed architecture also lies at the heart of Champagne Taittinger.  The birthplace of the Taittinger family Champagne, Château de la Marquetterie, is set in the heart of the wine-growing region.  Prior to the French Revolution, the one-time residence of writer Jacques Cazotte, author of French classic Le Diable Amoureux, was also a site for village fairs where philosophers and intellectuals of the Enlightenment would gather.

Lynn Murray, Marketing Director for Hatch Mansfield, the sole UK agents for Champagne Taittinger, comments, “This is the sixth year that Champagne Taittinger is working with the RIBA Stirling Prize and we are honoured to once again celebrate the achievements of inspired and exciting architectural works of art.  There are really impressive stories behind each of the shortlisted buildings – the art of construction and design is fascinating.”
