The Globe collection of mouth-blown glass pendants marks a new direction for British lighting brand Original BTC. Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Original BTC began life as a lighting manufacturer, evolving to become the Original BTC Group with three lighting brands and six UK factories under its umbrella. With a focus on authenticity, functionality and best-of-British craftsmanship, father-and-son team Peter and Charlie Bowles design and manufacture products based on the facilities available to them, with much of the core lighting range produced at their Stoke-on-Trent bone china factory.
Original BTC’s first in-house manufactured glass collection, the Globe pendants are free-blown at English Antique Glass, the Group’s Birmingham-based glassworks, using artisanal techniques first developed in the twelfth century. The highly skilled, labour and time-intensive process results in glass of the finest colour, clarity and brilliance. Unlike homogenous mould-made glass, each piece is unique, with slight variations demonstrating the care and attention with which it is crafted. Capturing Original BTC’s simple elegance and attention to detail, each pendant features a chrome or brass fitting with a matching chrome or brass wire suspension and bulb holder, plus trademark braided cable. Available in anthracite and opal smooth glass as well as anthracite and clear seedy glass, achieved by the addition of a potato to the kiln.
