Wagstaff Interiors Group Unveils Pop-Up Higher Education Innovation Centre in Clerkenwell

Wagstaff, the UK’s leading commercial office furniture and fit-out company, has transformed its Clerkenwell showroom to showcase the latest trends in higher education learning environments. Open until 4 April, the reimagined showroom presents purpose-built zones and cutting-edge installations that focus on key considerations including acoustics, inclusivity, innovation and wellbeing, with a series of accompanying discussion panels.

As one of the UK’s leading suppliers to the education sector, and one of only six government-appointed dedicated university furniture suppliers, Wagstaff brings their expertise and insight into the specific needs of higher education facilities. With a project portfolio of some of the largest UK university projects including UEL’s Main Reception Area, Cardiff University’s School of Architecture, Cambridge University’s Biotech building and Leeds University Ester Simpson Building, Wagstaff’s showroom will illustrate furniture and learning environments that enhance academic performance while prioritising the student’s wellbeing and overall university experience.

‘Visitors are invited to explore a series of core zones that form part of the higher education experience’, says Rafael Galvez Sales Director, Wagstaff, ‘From quiet study areas to collaborative spaces, accommodation and dining areas, each zone is designed to showcase the latest in the design and functionality of learning spaces.’

This unique experiential event highlights the impact of strategic design and the importance of these spaces to foster creativity, collaboration, academic success and students’ physical and mental wellbeing. Wagstaff welcome event partnerships with leading manufacturers Acoustic Comfort, Buro Huppold and Camira as part of the activation showcasing the latest innovations and products within the higher education sector.

Wednesday 12 March 1 pm – 5 pm: Drop-in Acoustics Workshop

James Hutchinson from Acoustic Comfort leads an engaging workshop designed to provide valuable insights into the impact of acoustics on physical and mental wellbeing. With introductions to essential materials used in room acoustics, how they function, and the effects they have on space.

Wednesday 12 March 5pm – 6pm: ABC of Acoustics – RIBA Accredited CPD Talk
Exploring the three core principles of acoustic design – Absorb, Block, and Cover – in a RIBA-accredited CPD session, with expert advice on enhancing sound quality, reducing noise disruption, and improving the acoustic comfort of learning environments.

Wednesday, 19th March 5pm – 5.45pm Neuro-Inclusive Environments for Learning & Workspaces
Farhad Rahim and Toar Sadia from Buro Happold presents an insightful presentation on neurodiversity in learning and workspaces, with insights on PAS 6463:2022, AUDE’s new neurodiversity guidance, and exploring examples that demonstrate best practices in designing inclusive spaces for neurodiverse individuals.

Thursday, 27th March 1 pm – 2pm Student Round Table Discussion

This closed-door talk will bring together students from the Royal College of Art, University of East London and University of the Arts London at a round table discussing the considerations and sensitivities of university design,  offering feedback on their experiences of their learning environments and how to do things differently for future students. Chaired by Alys Bryan, Editor of Design Insider Magazine

Thursday, 27th March 4 – 5pm A&D Round Table Discussion
Another closed-door event brings together higher education clients and architects to discuss the evolving landscape of learning environments. A white paper will be issued after the event, sharing insights and feedback on how to better support university spaces.

Thursday, 3rd April – 3pm – 4pm Weaving a Sustainable Future by Camira
Esmé Fenton from Camira will lead an inspiring workshop on sustainable textiles. Learn about Camira’s eco-friendly fabrics made from natural, renewable materials and repurposed ocean waste, exploring how these innovations are shaping the future of sustainable design in education and workspaces.
