Julian Coulter has been appointed the new Chairman of the Mastic Asphalt Council (MAC), the trade association representing the mastic asphalt sector.
Director of MAC contractor member Sussex Asphalte, Julian has extensive experience in roofing and mastic asphalt, including prestigious projects such as St Paul’s Cathedral, Dover Castle and Canterbury Cathedral. Julian has been Vice Chairman of MAC since 2013 and in his new position he takes over from former MAC Chairman Keith Collins of Bell Asphalt. The MAC Board are also pleased to report that Marcus Lee of IKO has been appointed as Vice Chairman.
Julian is the Grandson of Joseph Secchi, founder of Sussex Asphalte. His mother Eliana Coulter took over the running of the company with her brother Sid in the early 1960s and successfully built the company up over the intervening years. Julian lived and breathed asphalt alongside his Mother where he started out as a construction labourer in the early 1980s.
He attended Vauxhall College of Building and Further Education from 1982 to 1984 and achieved a Distinction in the Mastic Asphalt Apprenticeship. Julian and his brother took over Directors’ positions within the company in 2005 and throughout its growth, Julian has stayed loyal to the principles of high quality work that remains the hallmark of the mastic asphalt sector. Julian continues to inspire the next generation of mastic asphalters and is fully committed to the development and progression of the industry.
