The 140-seat spectator stand and changing rooms at Streatham-Croydon Rugby Football Club has been refurbished in team colours as part of an EQUITONE overclad solution.
The EQUITONE overclad solution and refurbishment, which avoided the high cost and disruption of demolition and new build, was project managed by Eye For Detail (EFD) Architects and achieved within a strict £260,000 budget. The completed stand was officially opened by Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London.
EFD Architects chose Ruby coloured EQUITONE [natura] to emulate the rugby club’s team colour, and Anthracite EQUITONE [natura] panels, to contrast with the Ruby, creating a colour block appearance.
The fibre cement panels were adhesive fixed to a Marley Eternit aluminium framing system anchored to the existing brick wall of the stand.
Paul Bassett, owner of EFD Architects, said: “After understanding the benefits offered by EQUITONE, we were confident that it was the right way forward for overcladding the unsightly brick walls. The technical support and samples provided by Marley Eternit made it very easy to specify. The end result is an aesthetically pleasing, robust structure that looks like new, thanks to the clean, crisp lines of the fibre cement facade.”
Marley Eternit’s fibre cement facade can achieve an A+ rating as defined in the BRE Green Guide to Specification based on generic rating for autoclaved fibre cement single sheet – (Element Ref: 80623042, 806230422, 806230447, 806230450).
EQUITONE materials have fire classifications A2-s1, d0 to EN 13501-1.
Refurbishment of the facilities at Streatham-Croydon RFC was made possible through a grant from the Sports Facilities Fund, plus additional funding from SITA trust, Sport England, The Rugby Football Union (RFU) and the London Marathon Trust.
Marley Eternit’s EQUITONE was fitted onto the Streatham-Croydon RFC stand by Farnborough-based Cladtech Associates.
