PupAid, the annual event that gives the dog-loving public a great day out – as well as raising awareness about the UK’s cruel puppy farming trade – is back!
Now in its sixth year, this fun-filled, free extravaganza returns to the leafy paradise of north London’s Primrose Hill for the fourth year running.
Come down on Saturday 5th September, from 10am to 5pm, and join a host of celebrities (PupAid supporters include Ricky Gervais, Brian May, Elle MacPherson, Liam Gallagher, Sarah Harding, Meg Mathews, David Gandy, Sue Perkins, Lucy Watson, Rachel Riley, Matt Johnson, and Ashley James) and their four-legged friends for an action-packed day for all the family.
Here you will find an irresistible collection of doggy boutique stalls; delicious, fresh vegan-only food; acoustic music and, of course, the perennially popular and hugely entertaining novelty dog show classes such as Waggiest Tail, Best Rescue, Child’s Best Friend and Coolest Dog in London, all judged by celebrity dog lovers.
You will also enjoy amazing doggy displays (including demonstrations by both Hearing Dogs and The Southern Golden Retriever Display Team), have-a-go agility ring and the incredibly moving parade of ex-breeding bitches rescued from UK puppy farms.
On hand to give the benefit of their wisdom will be some of the nation’s leading canine experts, from vets and behaviourists to groomers. PupAid even gives you the chance to get your dog microchipped – something which is due to become a legal requirement in 2016.
PupAid is the brainchild of vet, author, and TV presenter Marc Abraham, whose countless on screen credits include BBC Breakfast, ITV’s This Morning, The Alan Titchmarsh Show, and Good Morning Britain. Marc set up the PupAid campaign back in 2009 as a way of highlighting the growing problem of puppy farming, the mass commercial production of puppies purely for profit and without a thought for the welfare or happiness of the pup, breeding bitch or stud dogs. The first PupAid event took place in Brighton six years ago and has now grown to become one of north London’s most popular family outings.
Says Marc, “We are delighted to be returning to Primrose Hill to present what is always a brilliant day out with a unique atmosphere. We can’t thank The Royal Parks enough for all their support, as well as our main sponsors, Barking Heads Dog Food.
“As well as a huge amount of fun, PupAid is an incredible way of raising public awareness about puppy farming as well as educating prospective dog owners on the best, most responsible way to choose a dog, i.e. don’t buy a puppy without seeing it with its mother, or better still, adopt a pet from a reputable local animal rescue centre.”
Last year, as well as hosting the show, PupAid’s government e-petition asked for a ban on the sale of puppies and kittens without their mothers. The petition quickly collected 100,000 signatures – the amount necessary to trigger a three hour debate on puppy farming in the House of Commons. Since then Marc has spent many long hours at Parliament lobbying MPs with the aim of banning the sale of puppies and kittens in pet shops, along with all third party puppy and kitten sellers.
