The report highlights increased revenue, new openings and awards – a great start to the year
Europe’s design-led budget hotel brand, Motel One, has released its business report for the first quarter of 2016. With two new openings, two additional awards and increased revenue it has been a busy quarter for Motel One.
Highlights from the Q1 report include:
- Awarded Best Budget Hotel 2016 by the German Institute of Service Quality for the fourth year after previously winning in 2010, 2012 and 2014. The award’s report outlines that “one particular point of excellence at Motel One was its very good service quality. The hotel staff were friendly, well-motivated, knowledgeable and professional.”
- CEO Dieter Müller, was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 19th International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF). Willy Weiland, President of DEHOGA Berlin, honoured the founder of Motel One as an exceptional hotelier with an infallible business instinct that enables him to tackle the right project at the right time and to implement it resolutely.
- Two new hotel openings: the group’s seventh hotel in the Bavarian capital, Motel One München-Olympia Gate and the fifth in the UK, Motel One Newcastle. The design of Motel One München-Olympia Gate is inspired by the 1972 Olympic Games and is located in the popular district of Schwabing. Located in the historical city centre, the 222 room Motel One Newcastle is influenced by the local area and industrialisation.
- Revenue increased by 16% to EUR 74m following on from the previous year‘s figures of EUR 64m. EBITDA rose by 5% from EUR 16m to EUR 17m.
- Increased number of hotels, currently operating with 53 hotels (compared to previous year’s 48 hotels) and the summer of 2016 will welcome Motel One’s debut hotel in Switzerland, Motel One Basel and the third hotel in Stuttgart, Motel One Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt.
Motel One is particularly proud to have won the award for Best Budget Hotel along with Dieter Müller’s impressive Lifetime Achievement award. The group is delighted to report positive revenue figures and a growing portfolio. The development pipeline currently consists of 24 new hotels including a second Manchester property due to open in 2017 and a first hotel in Glasgow set for opening in 2018.
