HomeSense reveals that Brits find buying bedding the most romantic of homeware shopping.

23rd May 2016: New research from homeware-for-less retailer HomeSense has revealed that Brits are finding romance in the aisles of the bedding departments, whereas irons are putting them to sleep!

It may come as no surprise that women take the lead on buying power for interiors, with 78% of women taking control of the shopping trolley, although men don’t give up the battle easily as 48% of men boast that they are the ones to wear the trousers when it comes to buying for the home.

  • 36% of couples find that interiors shopping brings them together
  • … with 22% enjoying the physical process of testing out a new sofa in-store!

Making a house a home is said to be a stressful event in life, but HomeSense, the off-price homeware retailer, has found that couples find the process a bonding experience. With 8% of Brits reporting the shopping experience to be a romantic one, it’s no surprise that people like to take time to consider their purchases. HomeSense reports that the average Brit takes 12 days to select a homeware piece to buy, with women considering a purchase for 13 days, and men taking 10 days to make their choice.

The research, which polled 2,000 men and women from ages 18 to over 60, also highlights the interiors and homeware pieces that we most enjoy buying. With more Brits renting their homes than ever before (47% in 2015 – Mintel), the research supports an emerging trend for us to ‘spruce’ up our home, rather than redecorate entirely. With new deliveries in-store every day at up to 60% less than the RRP, HomeSense helps new homeowners and renters refresh their homes with unique and personal accessories.
