Forget the Man Cave, enter the She Shed

Everyone needs some peace and quiet once in a while and wants their own private space to escape to. Whilst men have the “Man Cave”, a space often in spare rooms, basements or garages where they can head, a new space is emerging as a haven for women.

The concept of the She Shed is growing in popularity, and this trend has been noted to such extent by two companies that is has led to the formation of a new partnership. The Posh Shed Company and Plantabox have recently joined forces to offer customers the ultimate She Shed.

In the past few years The Posh Shed Company and Plantabox have both seen an increase in the number of enquiries from women – and they do not want a shed to store their spades! They are looking for an outdoor space close to the home that she can call her own; where she can create her own sanctuary and have a space that is her own, kitted out with accessories of her choosing!

Richard Frost, CEO of The Posh Shed Company, “Sheds have traditionally been seen as a male preserve.  A stereotypical image, portrayed in 1980’s in films and TV programmes in particular, often had a man retreating to HIS shed for some “peace and quiet”. The shed was a place to retreat to; to smoke his pipe and get away from responsibilities. This stereotypical idea gave rise to the term Man Cave, but now women are claiming back the shed and, here at The Posh Shed Company, we are delighted to hear it!”

She Shed designs from The Posh Shed Company have seen them used for crafts, sewing and yoga, outdoor offices, or quite simply just somewhere to escape and sit, read and relax whilst enjoying some “me time”.

Design, decoration and furnishing are key in the creation of She Sheds and that is what sets them apart from traditional sheds. They are created to be an extension of the home and more similar to a living room with chairs, ornaments and soft furnishings instead of lawnmowers, BBQs and spades!

Dave Wilson from Plantabox, who create personalised, handmade wooden crates, commented: “Our crates are increasingly popular with women wanting to kit out their she sheds! We have personalised planting crates, caddies, trugs and trays that are all in keeping with bringing the outside indoors”.

As well as bespoke creations, The Posh Shed Company also has a range of sheds for customers to choose from. Posh Sheds come in a range of shapes and sizes from the compact Ludlow to the larger Gothic shed; there is something for everyone. Other designs include The Allotment Shed where you can grow plants on the roof; The Chelsea which has a built in log store; and The Southwold beach hut. They really are sheds for all reasons and seasons.
