DEMOLITION OF FORMER GARDEN CENTRE CLEARS WAY FOR SELF BUILD HOMES DEVELOPMENT

Boughton Park, a stunning development of new homes and offices from Quinn Estates at the site of the former Grafty Green garden centre near Ulcombe, will not only create new jobs but create one of the most desirable places to live and work in Kent.

The demolition of existing buildings, now underway, clears the way for a development inspired, in part, by its former use and rural setting. A new 5,000 sq ft office space will also provide future employment opportunities.

The site will provide a unique opportunity for people to create their own grand design, with one of 14 fully serviced self-build plots.  The homes have been designed by the award winning Kent based architect Guy Hollaway.

As part of the planning agreement for this Headcorn Road site, bought by Quinn Estates in November 2014, a contribution of £240,000 will be made to off-site affordable housing with an additional payment towards local NHS services and other local projects.

Outside the Section 106 agreement, a £100,000 payment has been provided to Boughton Malherbe Parish Council to improve local facilities.

Cllr Martin Round, Headcorn ward councillor, said: “The start of work on this site is great news for this rural community, not only in delivering a development that takes account of its sensitive rural location, but will also create much needed local jobs.

“Quinn Estates deserve great credit for their exceptional consultation with both the borough and parish councils and the wider public – taking on board what the community wanted and more importantly delivering on that in the final scheme.”

Robert Turner, chairman, Boughton Malherbe Parish Council,  which includes Grafty Green, said: “We are not only delighted to see work starting on the Boughton Park development, but pleased to have found in Quinn Estates a developer prepared to listen to local opinion.

“From the very start they kept us as a council in the picture with two public meetings at which residents were able to share their views.

“We believe this development will be of great benefit to the village, not only in terms of providing new and well-designed homes, but the creation of job opportunities via the office premises.”
