Grand Designs Live, proudly sponsored by Anglian Home Improvements, is set to return to ExCeL London from 29th April – 7th May 2017. This unique event promises to break down the conventional confines to home building, offering visitors a chance to explore the latest innovations, discover this year’s trends, preview unseen products and learn from an array of seminars held at the Grand Theatre, Sponsored by Airflow.
The iconic Grand Theatre will play host to some of the most influential names in the design and build industry, along with a multitude of well-known design authorities including Kevin McCloud and Charlie Luxton.
Presented daily by ‘Grand Designers’ Jon Martin and Noreen Jaafar, who have previously appeared on the much-loved TV programme, the Grand Theatre promises those undertaking their own selfbuild or renovation, along with fans of Grand Designs, the unique opportunity to hear directly from some of the most admired ‘Grand Designers’ to have been featured on the TV series. These will include:
Tom and Danielle Raffield:
o Appeared in 2016 series o Tom and Danielle Raffield present their Grand Designs project on how their design skills, determination and above all else, their love of timber created a masterpiece by building a unique timber extension on their Grade II listed cottage.
Jon Martin and Noreen Jaafar: o Appeared in 2016 series o Just when you thought you had seen it all, Jon Martin and Noreen Jaafar used their outstanding architectural design skills to create an outstanding magical treehouse. The tight wooded derelict plot of land contained protected trees, forcing the build upwards leaving the property essentially floating.
Paul and Carol Rimmer: o Appeared in 2016 series o A green belt plot proved hard to gain planning permission for, but Paul and Carol Rimmer managed to get the green light once they agreed to produce a carbon emission free sustainable house. Despite starting out with no budget and letting the costs spiral up to £200,000 more than they had expected, they were able to achieve their dream home.
Michael and Michelle Howe: o Appeared in 2015 series o With a growing family in tow, Michael and Michelle Howe were determined to finish their Grand Design on a Blacksmith’s century-old forge, despite having a short time span and an ambitious budget. The couple had a journey to discovery after their initial plan of doing most the work themselves proved to be a much bigger project than anticipated.
Mark Diacono: o Appeared in 2016 series o Mark Diacono created a work-life space to house his business, otter farm and a new home in one plot of land. This inspirational farmhouse design became the first on the TV series seeking crowdfunding to finish the development.
Stuart and Rosie Treasurer: o Appeared in 2016 series o With a love of industrial aesthetic and the need for space, a once unloved bungalow was transformed into a family-friendly light warm home, with the help of some DIY from home owners Stuart and Rosie Treasurer.
Visitors can look forward to all this as well as a slew of inspiring talks, demonstrations and discussions, across all 9 days of the show. With yet more events still to be confirmed, the timetable is already shaping up to be the most exciting yet!
