Entries are now open for the 8th Surface Design Awards which celebrate truly the best and most impressive use of materials in, and on, architectural projects from around the globe.
The last edition had over 197 entries from 22 different countries and the 2019 Supreme Winner was the stunning Maggie’s Centre St Barts by Steven Holl Architects. Projects from Zaha Hadid Architects, Studio Egret West, Rockwell Group, and Kengo Kuma & Associates were among the shortlist. There are two new categories for the 2020 Awards; Affordable Housing and Public Realm – reflecting the growing importance these two have on architecture and design. The remaining categories are Commercial Building (Interior and Exterior), Light + Surface (Interior and Exterior), Housing (Interior and Exterior), Public Building (Interior and Exterior), Retail Building (Interior and Exterior), Sustainable Surfaces (Interior and Exterior) and Temporary Structures.
The 2020 judging panel of industry experts is Co-Chaired by Paul Priestman from PriestmanGoode and Amin Taha from Groupwork. The remaining judges are Nikki Barton, British Airways; Sean
Griffiths, Modern Architect; Charles Holland, Charles Holland Architects; Glenn Johnson, Collins Aerospace; Daniel Mota Veiga, KEF / GP Acoustics and Steve Webb, Webb Yates Engineers.
After entries close they will work in two teams selecting a shortlist and winner for each of the 9 categories. They then join forces to pick the Supreme Winner, the best of the best.
The winners will be announced at a breakfast reception on Thursday 13 February at the Business Design Centre, London.
The Awards take place alongside Surface Design Show, the industry’s leading event for architects and designers. Projects can be submitted by the client, architect or designer, surface supplier or their representatives. Entries close Friday 27 September 2019.
