Fire engineering consultancy, OFR Consultants is continuing its commitment to graduate investment and training during these challenging times with the recruitment of five new team members. The five graduates are now working across OFR’s UK-wide offices in London, Bath, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Hadley Knight has joined the London office following his MEng Architectural Engineering degree at the University of Sheffield. In Scotland, recent graduates from the University of Edinburgh’s MEng Structural and Fire Safety Engineering course, Lewis Strachan and Sam Bryant started in the Glasgow and Edinburgh offices in mid-September. Whilst Oliver Shaw has joined the Manchester office and Maisie Gleeson has joined OFR colleagues in Bath.
Former Scottish Championships Triathlete, Lewis whose final year thesis project at the University of Edinburgh researched the fire safety risks associated with whisky production, explained why he was excited to have joined the expanding OFR team: “I think the biggest attraction for me was the size of the company and how it is completely independent to large, general engineering businesses. I much preferred the idea of working somewhere that allowed me to personally get to know and talk to a large percentage of the company, instead of only reporting to a line manager.”
Maisie, who studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol, said: “I’m looking forward to exploring all the different projects OFR is involved in and discovering what I like best. The wide variety of projects and sectors is partly what appealed to me about OFR so I’m looking forward to doing something different every day.”
Whilst Bolton-based Oliver, who spent a year teaching English in Foshan, China added: “What appealed to me about OFR is its fast paced growth and the opportunity to work with and learn from experts in the field of fire engineering.”
The business, which was established just under five years ago and has a turnover exceeding £6m, has quickly developed into an internationally renowned fire engineering consultancy working on some of the most pioneering global projects including the Google campus in London and the Rothera Research Station in Antarctica.
Speaking about the new graduate appointments, founding director, Simon Lay said: “We are so pleased that we are able to continue offering opportunities to the hardworking individuals that are starting out in our industry. We are confident that their new roles within the business will see them develop from academics into professional fire engineers – with daily exposure to some of the world’s most exciting construction projects.
“We welcome Hadley, Lewis, Sam, Oliver and Maisie to the team!”
