Holmes Bespoke’s Signature Collaborations with The World’s Most Stylish Design Hotels

Holmes Bespoke has firmly established itself over the past eight years as one of the leading resources for hoteliers, interior designers and procurement teams working on top hotel and hospitality projects around the globe. The studio is regularly commissioned to create fully bespoke rug designs that meet the exacting demands of this sector with a list of leading hotels as clients that includes The Hoxton Hotel Group, Gleneagles, Guest House Brighton and Margate, and Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons.

Designing rugs for commercial spaces requires an informed understanding of design trends, and the ability to meet tight deadlines and provide exemplary service, all whilst delivering exceptional quality.

Wool and Natural Materials

Hotels and commercial spaces experience
significantly more foot traffic than residential
properties, so the material selection is a key
focus in the Holmes Bespoke design approach.
While all rugs are created with longevity in mind,
they place even greater emphasis on durability
when working on commercial projects.
Studio founder and creative director, Laylah
Holmes comments ‘’For high-footfall areas, I
often choose wool as the primary material. It
offers a soft and luxurious feel while also being
durable and naturally sustainable, making it
both a practical and ethical choice. Wool is also
relatively easy to upkeep, which is especially
important in commercial settings where low maintenance solutions are appreciated.’’

Design and Brand Identity

Holmes Bespoke brings the creative vision to help develop a design dialogue through statement rugs,
establishing identity through colour, texture, pattern and storytelling. Many design-led hotel projects begin
with a story, and the studio works closely with its clients to translate this narrative into pieces that feel integral
to the brand experience.

Laylah comments ‘’Our work on the Broadwick Soho offered an opportunity to explore rich colour options
and heritage-inspired motifs. The new vision for the hotel draws on its location and historical context, with
influences from the glamour of the Jazz Age, Italian elegance and British eclecticism. We continued this story
through bold linework, and a curated palette of deep oranges contrasted with soft blues. This complemented
the surrounding furniture and interiors.’’

‘’As with any large-scale project, collaboration across the design team was paramount. Ensuring a cohesive
blend of colour, texture, and pattern across all sectors helped us create a unified and immersive visual story.’’

The Brief and Projects

The Hoxton

Holmes Bespoke was commissioned by The Hoxton to create bespoke wall hangings for 240 guestrooms
and suites, alongside tailored detailing for the hotel’s public and private areas. Each design began as a hand drawn concept, crafted to echo the distinct function and atmosphere of its setting. Playful, inviting patterns were introduced in communal zones such as dining rooms and entryways to enhance the hotel’s lively, social character, while more restrained, calming motifs were selected for desk and work areas frequented by business travellers, offering a subtle sense of focus and clarity. This thoughtful, site-specific approach ensured every rug contributed to the hotel’s overall experience, both aesthetically and functionally.

Gleneagles Spa

Holmes Bespoke’s work for Gleneagles Spa called for a more tranquil and understated design language.
Here, the focus shifted from bold pattern to refined texture, with each rug crafted to work in harmony with the spa’s soft, sumptuous towelling and the clean, architectural lines of its tiled surfaces. The result is a serene, retreat-like atmosphere where tactile comfort takes precedence, inviting guests to sink into a sense of calm through subtle layers, gentle detailing and a soothing, sensory experience.

Guesthouse Hotels, Margate & Brighton

For the Margate project, Holmes Bespoke created rugs for all 21 bedrooms, as well as the public areas and roof terrace of the hotel. Situated in Kent’s seaside town, the hotel’s aesthetic is bright and airy, reminiscent of relaxed days by the coast. The project included soft and luxurious rugs for each bedroom, coordinating the colour palette to the warm neutrals from surrounding blankets, headboards, artwork, and walls, inviting a sense of calm and relaxation.

In the common areas of both the Margate and Brighton properties, the colour palette consisted of warmer brown hues to complement the natural sandy tones of the nearby beach. The shared spaces incorporated playful textures that add character to the livelier spaces while still preserving the light aesthetic established in the bedrooms.
