A thriving success at northmodern

Northmodern ended Saturday, August 15, and left an imprint of success. northmodern was launched in January 2015 and within the first year of the shows life, it is obvious that the concept has been well received by the industry. Northmodern is more than a business platform, it is a community for knowledge sharing, networking, innovation and design.

With the increase in brands exhibiting at northmodern August 2015, amounting to 480, and an increase in square meters, northmodern is pleased to announce more than 4400 visitors came to do business this season. This is, from the first edition of northmodern in January 2015, a stunning increase of 62%.

northmodern’s focus is not the quantity of the visitors but the quality, and in respect to that the team behind northmodern has worked on increasing the international awareness of the fair. We are happy to report that this has resulted in a 100% increase in international visitors at northmodern from January 2015 to August 2015.

“It is fantastic to see how the vision of northmodern is taking shape. The ambition to include Copenhagen is being realised and we are happy to see that the industry, nationally and internationally, is behind us.

northmodern is more than a trade show. It is a movement bringing back Copenhagen on the world map as a leding destination for furniture and lifestyle for both domestic Scandinavian and international talents and super brands. It is a collaboration with Design Denmark and Danish Design Center working closely together in a joint vision for a broader design event encompassing Copenhagen and Denmark as a whole. This will, combined with a focus on a sharp curation and segmentation, ensure that we will continue to grow.

Buyers, exhibitors and press have come back with positive feedback and support. We would like to share the feedback with you:

“I have just visited the August northmodern in Copenhagen for the first time and was most impressed. Easily accessed, well organized with a relaxed and spacious vibe there was time to discuss opportunities with a well curated range of brands and makers. Combining the show with a tour of Copenhagen’s shops and design hubs was inspirational and I came away feeling my time was very well spent in a calm yet stimulating environment.”

Anna Rigby, Head of Buying Home Accessories, Gifts and Seasonal at John Lewis UK

“You can easily spend a few days at the northmodern fair. The flow and variety of lighting, furniture and interior design brands has been put together very successfully, and represents a wide selection of the best from both the Danish and the International design scene. We have with great success throughout the past year established several cooperation’s with new brands all spotted at the northmodern fair. All in all the northmodern has definitely earned its place as an “must go see” “

Maria Larsen, Section Deputy Manager at Illums Bolighus A/S

“It was the first Co-event for 1.618 Paris outside France. This first experience was really great! The entire selection of northmodern was very modern, strong, and eclectic. The 1.618 space showed 25 sustainable lifestyle brands from 10 countries, from jewelry, design, fashion and mobility. Our exhibitors were very happy to be part of a sustainable community inside a creative event like northmodern! Most of them went in Denmark for the first time, they felt a dynamic market, involved in sustainability and met qualitative visitors from all over the world. 1.618 Paris shares the same vision as northmodern: showcasing creative communities and a new innovative lifestyle. Thank you for the nice business experience! We will be back!”

Barbara Coignet, Founder and CEO, 1.618 Sustainable Luxury

“northmodern was again this August a very positive experience. The fair has developed in the right direction and we are happy to be part of it and support the vision.”

Janne Moltke-Leth, Director at Paustian

”Our participation at northmodern exceeded all our expectations. It was our first time at a trade show but definitely not the last! At northmodern we had the opportunity to show our new products to a range of buyers which we otherwise had not come in contact with. We have developed a number of relations to Danish and international visitors and companies which undoubtable will affect the development of our business. On top of many new contacts, the participation has also resulted in direct orders with customers, which we have previously tried to get in contact with without any luck. As newcomers in the industry, it has been an immensely positive experience being at northmodern. Both in terms of the team behind northmodern and the rest of the exhibitors, adding to our fantastic trade show experience.”

Janus Larsen, Founder and Designer at Noyer – made by hand, DK

“northmodern has developed into the leading professional meeting point for furniture and lifestyle in the North. It is clear that both the exhibitors and visitors needs have been in focus under the development. It is a thoughtfully curated mix of new talents and established brands. This mix makes northmodern the place for both business and creativity. For Menu it has been a great pleasure to attend. The trade show has developed in quality as well as the amount of relevant visitors compared to previously and it has already now proven to be a great platform for Menu’s new Home Accessories concept together with our Nepal-project. Thanks for now and we will be back!!”

Lisbeth Raulund, Project Manager at Menu

We of course had visitors from Denmark but we also met international customers from Sweden, Norway and Germany. Both Thursday and Friday was really busy. All in all, a really great fair, nice atmosphere and dynamics at the stand and we found that the curation of northmodern was really strong.”

“northmodern was a truly inspirational show I was so impressed with it and how well considered it was. It celebrated design with style, ethics, inspiration and innovation. I never thought a trade show could be cool but northmodern proved it could be done. It was the perfect showcase for celebrating so much new Scandinavian and European design.“

”northmodern is a refreshing contrast to the craziness of bigger design fairs. The calm yet considered atmosphere marries perfectly with Danish design culture, and offers the chance to meet the people behind the projects in a relaxed setting.”
