Colleagues Gary Newbold, Alfredo Di Meo and Matt Smith of leading sliding and bi-folding glass door manufacturer, Solarlux Systems Ltd, have recently undertaken an immense physical challenge, cycling from their UK office in Welwyn Garden City to the company’s brand new headquarters in Melle, Germany.
The aptly named ‘The Crazy British Cycling Tour’ saw the Solarlux team begin on 3rd September, reaching their final destination in Germany on 6th September, after a gruelling journey that allowed them to take in the sights at the company’s Dutch office in Nijverdaal.
Gary and Matt are both avid cyclists, and Alfredo has previously run extreme marathons in the desert, jungle and the Arctic, though all admitted that the tour had challenged them mentally and physically over the four day period.
Gary Newbold, who organised and participated in the testing challenge, said ”We took on the 600km tour to support the fantastic work of the Make A Wish Foundation. The charity grants wishes to children suffering with life threatening conditions, so Alfredo, Matt and I were keen to do what we could to raise funds for this brilliant cause. This cycling tour saw us in the saddle for a gruelling 150km and coincided with the official opening of our new factory in Germany, so it seemed a worthwhile way of marking the occasion.”
The rest of Solarlux’s employees from across the UK and Europe have proudly supported the team and would like to encourage anyone wishing to donate to visit their Just Giving Page.
Gary continued, ”With generous donations from the company, our colleagues, friends, partners, suppliers and, of course, our customers, we hope to be able to make a real difference to the lives of the children supported by this incredible charity.”
