Ibstock Brick has joined forces with Miller Homes to support Habitat for Humanity’s pledge to build more ‘Habitat Homes’ and its WaSH (water, sanitation and hygiene) programme in Malawi.
The leading manufacturer of high quality brick ranges is supporting Adrian Jones, Sales Manager for Ibstock Brick, as he takes part in the initiative in Salima, Malawi to build new homes, with the aim of alleviating poverty housing.
Adrian, who is based out of Ibstock Brick’s Leicestershire headquarters, commented: “I’m extremely proud to represent Ibstock on this trip. In the UK we’re fortunate with our standards of living and this trip will really make a difference to the community in Salima. The trip will be life changing for us all and I just hope that our work can help put a smile on people’s faces and really make a substantial difference to their living and school environments.”
The team will build new homes for orphans and vulnerable children, whilst also aiming to raise £30,000 to fund the construction of a new bridge in Chikwawa district, which will allow for the construction of vital sanitation facilities serving Mazongoza Primary School.
Adrian will join Habitat for Humanity on a global village trip along with Miller Homes and 11 of Miller Homes’ partners, including members of its supply chain and Miller Homes’ Chief Executive, Chris Endsor; Procurement and Sustainability Director, Garry McDonald; and Production Director for Scotland, Andrew Fergusson.
Chris Endsor, who will be participating in his second global village trip for the charity, explained: “We are proud of our association with Habitat for Humanity, a charity which undertakes tremendous work to transform the lives of some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world.
“Over the last three years, we have supported Habitat in a number of ways and this year we were keen to push the boundaries even further. In addition to a team of Miller Homes volunteers who visited Malawi previously we also invited some of our key partners to get involved in another trip. Alongside this we also asked them to help us raise funds for Habitat’s WaSH programme, to improve sanitation facilities and infrastructure for the people of Mazongoza village.”
Miller Homes and its partners are aiming to build three Habitat Homes in Malawi and raise £30,000 to fund the construction of a new bridge which will facilitate the movement of construction materials into Mazongoza village. As the village is surrounded by a river, the bridge will provide the necessary infrastructure to deploy a drilling rig and allow the WaSH programme to be implemented at the school. In addition to improved water, sanitation and hygiene at the school, the programme will have a long term broader impact for the entire village through increased access to services and income generating activities.
